The aim of our research team is to promote the independence and mental health well-being of older people. Three research groups focus on (1) frailty and musculoskeletal health, (2) oral health and nutrition, and (3) dementia and mental health, respectively. Each group conducts a series of observation and intervention studies and develops the programs for prevention from and intervention of physical, mental, and social frailty. In addition, in collaboration of three groups, comprehensive strategies for prevention from and intervention of multiple frailty and "complexity" of dementia with physical, mental, and social vulnerability and disability. On the basis of these studies, we contribute to development of guidelines by academic societies and national and local health measures in collaboration with national and local governments. Finally, our research team tries to develop a model of a community-based integrated care system and dementia friendly communities where people can live well with hope and dignity regardless of dementia and disability. The Takashimadaira study is one of the longitudinal cohort studies to develop the model in Tokyo metropolis.
